Chapter 5 Brisbane & Byron Bay

Publikováno: 26.10.2019

Two weeks in Brisbane are now behind us, nine of which we worked at an Oktoberfest. Yes, you heard right, at an Oktoberfest.
There we mainly stood at the grill. Almost all day long. Is there anything better for a German? In retrospect, yes, because we still smell like a sausage that has been smoked for two weeks!
The Oktoberfest usually expects an average of 43 thousand visitors, but due to the weather, among other things, there were significantly fewer, so we had a relatively stress-free working time and could stuff our bellies in the breaks.

We spent most of our time between the days with our grilling colleague, Danny, a Dutchman and fan of Heerenven.
For the city of Brisbane itself, two good days would have been enough. The city center consists of several shopping opportunities and many restaurants. Even the bars close at half past 11 on weekends.
However, if you go over the bridges to Southbank, you walk along the Brisbane River, past the typical city pool for Australia, always on the edge of the city center.
If you then pass Kangaroo Point - where, to our disappointment, there were no kangaroos to be found - you come across the Story Bridge, which completes the tour and leads you back to the city center.
The tour ended with a free boat trip on the Brisbane River, along the skyline. Especially in the evenings, it's very beautiful!
In the end, we were glad when we could leave Brisbane behind, as we will come back for 1-2 days anyway with Timo and Dominik, who will arrive in Australia at the beginning of November.

With Danny, we then drove further south to Byron Bay. There we explored the town for two days before driving back to Brisbane - without Danny, who continues south - to fulfill a childhood dream: to watch the Brisbane Roar, the major football club, live.

To illustrate the importance of football in Australia: Around 12 thousand spectators gathered in the rugby stadium (Suncorp Stadium), which has a capacity of 52 thousand seats. So we had a nice football stadium experience at a low price, with great seats!

Now we are looking forward to the arrival of our two dudes and let's see what else happens in the next two weeks.

Until then,

your Louis & Jonas
