Upon arriving in Cairns, we checked off all the preparations: bank card, tax number, SIM card, and of course, the most important thing: the car.
Allow us to introduce: Jacky.
Jacky is a Holden Jackaroo. We thought Jacky was great. We bought Jacky. Welcome to the Jolousfunworld Travel Team!
Cairns is a small town in northeastern Australia. Here we found an affordable hostel where we have been living for a little over a week. The focal point of Cairns is the waterfront, which includes a public pool and a park with barbecue areas. We spent the first few days mainly here, doing what we do best: nothing.
Together with two people from Saarland, who are also our roommates, we grilled the last two evenings and tried out the Australian wine, also known as Goon. Cheers mates!
Cairns has more to offer than just a waterfront, namely the Great Barrier Reef.
Our Great Barrier Reef tour was on the agenda for today. We started at 8:00 am. 3 hours later, after a small snack for breakfast, it was time. We were invited to our very first dive in our lives. For those who are thinking: oh, they don't have a diving license! No, we don't, because after a detailed introduction, we dived together with a guide. Louis on the right hand and Jonas on the left hand of our dive guide.
An incredible experience. Not only did we dive with the fish, but we also lost all sense of time and admired and enjoyed every moment. The pictures speak for themselves. (Our two Asian dive buddies took a lot of underwater photos, which we will add if they are sent to us.)
After lunch, we snorkelled for over an hour on the other side of the Upolu Cay Reefs. Besides many colorful fish, we saw two octopuses that quickly disappeared.
We docked back at the harbor around 5:00 pm. Now we're back at the hostel, looking back on an absolutely beautiful and worthwhile day.
Until then,
your Louis & Jonas
