22.10.2021 Day trip Sugarloaf, Maracanã Stadium, Christ the Redeemer Statue, San Sebastião Cathedral

Publikováno: 24.10.2021

Our day trip on 22.10 included destinations directly in Rio de Janeiro.

We started with a visit to the Christ the Redeemer Statue. Truly impressive at 30 meters!

Next was a short photo session at the Maracanã Stadium and the Sambadrome, where the samba festivals always take place in Rio.

The San Sebastião Cathedral, which came next, truly deserves the nickname 'The ugliest church in the world'. I rarely saw such an ugly church before.

Next stop. Selaron Steps. Also here, it was just a short stop for a quick photo.

To end the day, we took a ride to Sugarloaf Mountain, using the cable car. The ride included two cable car trips, as there was a smaller mountain in front of Sugarloaf Mountain, Morro da Urca, which served as the intermediate station.

The cable car technology was originally German, then replaced by Italian technology in 1970 and finally by Swiss technology in 2008.

Our evening took us to Zeca's Bar. The bar belongs to Zeca Pagodinho, a samba musician and singer. Pagode music, a variation of samba from the Rio de Janeiro region, is played there.
