Today, straight after breakfast in the hotel, I got back on the bike. After just a few meters, it was clear to me that today was going to be a tough day: strong east wind! I had a headwind that was more or less strong all day. After 10 km, a Serbian mountain biker offered to let me hang behind him in his slipstream for a few kilometers. That really helped a lot, he took me to just before Novi Sad. Then I wanted to take a short break and he continued on. A little later, I was in Novi Sad, the city has a very beautiful castle that towers over the Danube and is otherwise a city that has "shown its age" with old prefabricated buildings.
After Novi Sad, I had to climb a few meters in altitude for the first time in a few days. Now I mostly went along busy roads and the combination of the climb and the headwind was really exhausting. After the climb, I was in a kind of wine region. There was a winery on every corner! The landscape was also slightly different from the otherwise flat fields.
After 125km (which felt like much more because of the headwind) I reached a campsite on the outskirts of Belgrade shortly after 5pm. It is beautifully situated directly above the Danube. Tomorrow we will go through Belgrade and continue towards the Black Sea!
