Sudáfrica-Ubuntu

Hola chicos, primero que nada, ¡Feliz Navidad! (no es tan fácil recordar que es Navidad, si estás tumbado en la playa disfrutando del sol a 30 grados).

Desde el tres de octubre estamos aquí en Sudáfrica/Ciudad del Cabo, más exactamente en Capri Village en Noordthoek. Allí disfrutamos de ocho semanas de Ubuntu. 'Ubuntu' significa humanidad, sobre la cual hemos reflexionado mucho y que no deberíamos olvidar. Nuestro trabajo voluntario en los barrios bajos con los niños fue muy divertido. Generalmente jugamos con ellos, hicimos manualidades o tareas. La infraestructura de los jardines de infancia, la interacción con los niños y, por supuesto, las condiciones de vida de los niños fueron al principio bastante impactantes, pero con el tiempo aprendimos a manejarlas. Es difícil poner en palabras lo que algunos niños han experimentado a tan corta edad, pero hacerlos reír o simplemente quererlos es la prioridad número uno. Por la mañana cuidamos de los niños de 8 meses a 6 años. Por la tarde, los mayores, normalmente los adolescentes, eran los siguientes, con ellos también pudimos comunicarnos en inglés. Para los niños de la tarde se construyó un centro especial donde podían liberar energía, ya sea tocando tambores, haciendo manualidades o bailando. El edificio, por supuesto, también necesitaba reparaciones; algunos días teníamos que hacer jardinería o reparaciones. La increíble, colorida y ruidosa cultura de los africanos no la hemos experimentado mejor que en las últimas semanas. Dado que durante nuestro tiempo de proyecto siempre vivimos con locales y 20 otros voluntarios, nos hemos convertido en parte de esta gran comunidad. También los fines de semana nunca fue aburrido. Festivales, karaoke, explorar Ciudad del Cabo, subir la Mesa, caminatas a la luna llena en el Lionshead, ir de compras en los muchos mercados y, por supuesto, celebrar en Longstreet no podían faltar.

En este punto, un agradecimiento enorme a Candy y Sidney, por permitirnos quedarnos en su casa.

Hi guys, first of all happy Christmas (it's not that easy to remember Christmas, if you lay on the beach and enjoy the sun by 30 degrees)

Since the third of October we are here in South Africa/Cape Town but exactly in Noordthoek/Capri Village. There we enjoyed eight weeks of Ubuntu. Ubuntu means humanity, which we thought about very often and please don't forget it. Our volunteer work with the kids was a lot of fun. Usually, we played with them or did homework together. The equipment from the kindergarten, the contact with the kids and their lifestyle were initially a shock for us, but over time we learned to handle different situations. It's difficult to explain what happened to some of the kids in their young lives, but making them happy or giving them love was priority one. Before lunch we cared for kids from 8 months to 6 years old. In the afternoon, the older ones, the teenagers, took their turn; we could also communicate with them in English. For the afternoon kids, a center was built where they could play and we had to take care of the building. So some days we worked in the garden or painted the floors. During the volunteer time, we slept, together with 20 other volunteers, with local people. A perfect way to learn so much about the loud and colorful culture of Africa. All together we achieved a really close unity.

It never gets boring because on the weekends we enjoyed Cape Town, went to music festivals, hiked to Table Mountain or Lions Head during the full moon, shopped at the markets and celebrated on Long Street.
