Durmitor National Park

Publicat: 27.06.2023

After our monastery experience, we continued north towards Durmitor National Park in time for the next nap. Our first sleeping spot outside the park, with views of the mountains and the last patches of snow at sunset, already made us excited for everything to come!

We started off with the longest hike with Heidi so far, 6 hours! Carrying her in a carrier, sometimes on the shoulder, and taking extended breaks whenever she was awake, we covered a distance of 12km and climbed nearly 600 meters 😊 We circumnavigated a beautiful lake, including walking barefoot through icy waterfall streams. And then higher and deeper into the national park, to one of the most stunning places I have ever hiked 🤩

After that, we spent 2 days on the approximately 80km long panoramic ring road that runs through the national park. With many stops, rolling breaks, a few more smaller hikes, super delicious self-cooked meals, excellent chocolate croissants, and more super nice encounters (Yes, most of them because of Heidi, except for the one where we wanted to buy honey and got a very large jar of honey, along with schnapps, of course, which Hansi had to thoroughly taste. But Ari also didn't go empty-handed and got to taste a large shot of pure syrup - thank you 😅), we had a fantastic time here. The baby carrier was also tried for the first time and found to be good, although Heidi still needs to grow into it a little bit more 😍.

On the last night in Durmitor Park, we slept a bit outside with a great view of the mountains we had just explored. We were standing freely above a lake where we could wash ourselves very much needed 😄 Unfortunately, the legend says that swimmers are often taken away by the devil, so we naturally hurried 😁

The next morning, we took an extended walk here while Heidi was napping and moved on, eagerly looking forward to what Montenegro still had in store for us 🚀

Durmitor National Park was definitely a huge highlight for us 😍 (and by the way, compared to Croatia, the entry fee here is €5 per day and only if someone is checking, that's something for us 😊)
