Day 17 - Daintree Rainforest

Publicat: 12.10.2017

After a quick coffee, we were picked up directly from our campsite by our guide for today, a retired Australian named Jeff, to drive to Mossman Gorge. On the way, we picked up two extremely lovely American ladies who joined us on this adventure.

Along the Mossman River, Jeff introduced us to the special features of the rainforest, all according to the motto: 'learning by doing'. Being one of the first groups on the trails, we even managed to catch a glimpse of one of the shy river turtles.

After that, we proceeded quickly to the Daintree River, where we first had our morning tea and delicious Lamington Cake. Then we boarded a small boat and searched the river for the large 'salties'. Unfortunately, it was too early for the big crocs and we could only spot a 6-month-old specimen, a tree snake, and many water birds.

Maybe there is a croc hiding there?!

After our river cruise, we drove to the northernmost point that can be reached with a 'normal' car: Cape Tribulation. There, we confirmed with a short walk that the saying 'where the rainforest meets the reef' is indeed true.

On the way to our lunch spot, we caught a glimpse of the rare Cassowary and its chick. After eating, we headed to our final destination, a small lagoon with a waterfall in the middle of the jungle. As a travel snack, we got ourselves an ice cream made from fresh fruits grown in Daintree.

To reach our swimming spot, we had to take a short 4wd ride in an old Jeep. After a refreshing swim and splash, we had the opportunity to feed the fish, turtles, and an eel living in the small lagoon.

Overjoyed and with picturesque lighting, we said goodbye to the rainforest and our super nice and lovely Jeff.
