17. Stop Toronto, Ontario

Objavljeno: 06.01.2020

On Saturday, 21.12. I took the bus to Toronto and arrived in the evening. I stayed here until the new year and stayed with friends, enjoying the luxury of having a closet and not having to live out of a backpack ;) Especially over Christmas and New Year's, it was important to me not to be alone or with people I know. So I used the time to relax and didn't do sightseeing every day like the last 7 weeks.

Nevertheless, I naturally took a look at the city and went to the city center on several days. Toronto is the largest city in Canada with more than 6 million inhabitants and is located in the province of Ontario.

Toronto, like Quebec, has a European-inspired and Germany-inspired Christmas market, which is located in the distillery district in the middle of the city for almost 5 weeks. As it is a popular tourist attraction, you can only get in with a ticket, so the number of visitors can be monitored. The narrow alleys were naturally extremely crowded, everyone wanted to buy their last Christmas presents.

The largest market is called St. Lawrence Market. In the east of the city is the large market hall with two levels and everything your heart desires. All the classics are represented: fish, meat, vegetables & fruit, bakeries, cheese, and of course, souvenir shops.

I visited a Canadian brewery and tried the beer brewed in the traditional Pilsner style in the beer garden. Of course, it can't be compared to German taste ;) but still very delicious. There was also a pretzel served with mustard and cheese sauce - those who know me know that I don't like either, so I just ate the warm pretzel on its own.

In the same building as the brewery, there is a railway museum. Since I was here on a Saturday, there was a lot going on and I decided not to visit - but there were a few exhibits placed on tracks outside.
