Renchen and Achern

we are on the move
(it's known: we're not getting any younger) 

Unfortunately, the text I wrote right after the wallpaper shopping spree on August 12th has disappeared. And despite 17 drafts (?) it hasn't reappeared. Too bad. So now I'll try to dig up this tour from the depths of my mind. 

It was another very rainy day - according to AGRARWETTER it was supposed to get better. We drove to Renchen via the B3. We came through the large fruit-growing area in Baden-Württemberg (learned something new again) and then came to the city of SIMPLICISSIMUS by Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen. We read the story in school, but it didn't make much of an impression on me. We will probably have to visit the museum in Renchen and listen to the corresponding audiobook.

Since we left the house very early again, my stomach is growling now and it's been a while since I had my last coffee. So we headed to PETER´S GUTE BÄCKEREI on the main street and enjoyed a good espresso with plum cake (called Zwetschgenkuchen here); both were very tasty. And because it was dry at the moment, we wanted to take another round through the town. We only made it through Schlossbergstraße before the rain started again. 

So we continued to Renchen-Ulm. There are other districts that belong to Renchen, but we didn't visit them. For the 'wallpaper search', the brewery BAUHÖFER is more suitable, which has been brewing here since 1852. Again, the wrong time for a beer, but we found a great old carriage loaded with beer barrels on the road and in front of an older 'office building'. And across the street, the village stream flows very idyllically. Some residents reach their properties and houses via bridges. The rain sent us off again. 

Now to Kappelrodeck; a beautifully located town amidst gentle vineyards. And again rain, which dampened the joy of this place somewhat. We drove uphill to the winery HEX VOM DASENSTEIN. Also very beautiful and we would have liked to visit this cooperative - as mentioned before, the timing is wrong. At least a beautiful background for the actual purpose of this trip. And then there's the ZUCKERBERGSCHLOSS above Kappelrodeck. If you want to celebrate a party here, you will not only be treated to delicious food and drinks, but also the view will remain in the memory of all guests. The castle has been a family-run restaurant since 2022. 

Then the journey continues to Achern. By now without a major construction site in the city center. Unfortunately, there was no background there. But the doors were still open at REITHALLE ACHERN. Today it is a market hall with nice little shops. They were already closed during our visit, but we could still admire flowers and decorations when we looked inside this beautiful building. On September 10th, this year, the Day of Open Monuments will be celebrated again. In front of the riding hall, there is a small outdoor area of the restaurant TANKE 58. Unfortunately, it is not an alternative in the rain and strong wind. There used to be a gas station here. 

We set off again and went to Buehl to search for the AFFENTALER WINZERGENOSSENSCHAFT. The large hall at Betschgräblerplatz in Buehl also offers conference rooms for various events - for example, weddings can be held here. 
Our little trip continues to Buehl in the city center. Here, at the STAMMHAUS of the BÖCKELER family (since 1932!), the hearts of all cake fans truly beat faster. In addition, there are plenty of handmade delicious pralines. Only one staircase separates us from this pleasure. Completely in coffee and cake bliss, we start the journey home. And the sky clears up, and the sun quickly dries everything off within a short time. Despite the rain showers, it was another educational excursion.
