USA / Miami, Key West, Everglades

Objavljeno: 13.06.2017

After the last three months in the same apartment, it was more difficult than expected to get used to 'living out of a backpack' again...

Unfortunately, I realized that the three months on the west coast cost more than I thought. However, during my stay in California, I met many people who became friends. I was able to use these new friendships right from the beginning by staying the first few nights in Janine's apartment in South Beach.

The first few days in Miami were cloudy, so sunbathing at the beach was out of the question. Nevertheless, the humidity was unbearable... Showering at least twice a day became routine.

Together, we explored the colorful streets of Miami. In particular, 'Wynwood' is one of my favorites. In addition to painted walls, trendy bars and fancy restaurants can be found there.

The nightlife in Miami can be compared to the nightlife in LA - great locations, exorbitant cover charges (for men), stylish women, and amazing music. Miami has the upper hand over LA in one aspect: the parties go on until the early morning hours :)

Key West

I made my way to Key West with my rented vehicle. On the way, I made a stop at the famous Skipper Dock Restaurant in Key Largo. Since the journey from Miami to Key West takes about 4 hours, I also made a second stop at Sombrero Beach in Marathon. It looked like a scene from a movie - perfect palm trees, clear water, and fine sand. I arrived in Key West just in time for sunset. Right after checking in, I went to Mallory Square, where about 200 people were eagerly waiting for the sunset - the sun disappeared behind a small island! The next day, I explored the small town on foot. I went to the Southernmost Point (just 90 miles from Cuba) and walked along Duval Street with its countless shops, bars, and restaurants.

On the same day, I already made my way to Everglades.

Everglades

To be honest, I have no idea what the city looks like or what it has to offer. I arrived in the late evening and settled into the hostel right away. Early the next morning, I visited the Alligator Farm. After a boat tour on the canals with alligators, we were shown an alligator/snake show. The absolute highlight was being able to hold the animals myself at the end! During the boat tour, I met two amazing women from Poland. Directly from the farm, I went to the hostel in South Beach that I had booked for the last two nights in this city. I met my two new friends, Mili and Kasia, for a pleasant evening on Ocean Drive - the topic of conversation: relationship problems with their friends due to their work...

I spent the last day at the beach in Fort Lauderdale. In my opinion, not worth the trip from Miami... The city doesn't have anything special to offer, nor is the beach anything extraordinary.

My next destination will be Charlotte in North Carolina.

P.S. It's hard to believe that over 200 days have passed...
