28.08 - 30.08
28.08 - For the first time, we had fog when we got up. Today we continued to the next national park, Kalbarri. This national park is particularly known for its wildflowers in spring. Our first stop was at the Blue Holes for snorkeling and lunch. We were surprised by a whale (probably a blue whale). For almost an hour, we gazed fascinated at the sea. After snorkeling, we went on a short hike, the Nature Trail, which went along the coast. Spontaneously, we stopped at the Red Bluff Lookout. Here, we had a great view of the sea, including whales. To our surprise, two kangaroos also appeared in the bushes.
29.08 - Thanks to the nice lady at the Visitor Center, we got up early today to avoid the heat during the long hike. The Loop Trail runs for 9 km along gorges, rivers, and sandy bushland. The starting point was at Nature's Window. Getting up early was worth it not just because of the heat but because it later became rainy and foggy. After this hike, we also visited the two lookout platforms, Skywalks. From here, you can overlook the Murchison River. We took it easy in the afternoon.
30.08 - The day started cloudy, but we were pleasantly surprised by sunshine during our hike along the Bigurda Trail. We began at the Shell House Lookout and hiked along the beige cliffs with some wildflowers. During our hike, we saw many humpback whales, dolphins, and even a southern right whale, which accompanied us for almost the entire hike. We enjoyed dinner at sunset at Jakes Point, a well-known surfer hotspot.
