After a year, 7 days, 16 hours, and 18 minutes of travel, we are back in Switzerland. We look back on an unforgettable time! So many amazing experiences, encounters, and memories. We were amazed, touched, annoyed, overwhelmed, relaxed, excited, calm, happy, sad, amused, sick, healthy, but definitely grateful for being able to experience all of this. This is an attempt at a different kind of review.
We have tried to quantify our journey and have come across some astonishing numbers again! Feel free to guess.
How many kilometers have we traveled... by train?... on the road?... by boat?... by plane? - It is a proud 29,029 km by train, 8,639 km on the road - even if not every bumpy road deserves that name, 576 km on water, and 54,518 km in the air! So we have traveled almost 1 time by land and about 1 1/3 times in the air around the world! (This only refers to the distances from A to B, not local transport or excursions/tours.)
How many Swiss Army knives does it take for two Swiss people to travel for a year? - 8. It breaks down like this: 3 given away, 3 confiscated, 1 lost, remaining 1. We bought more Swiss Army knives abroad than ever in Switzerland.
What was stolen from us? - 1 bikini, 1 swimming trunks. So it's not too bad.
Which city has the most inhabitants? How many are there? - Shanghai, 24 million.
In which currency do you get the highest amount for one Swiss franc? - Indonesian Rupiah. 13,844 IDR = 1 CHF. A pizza? "100,000, please!" In comparison, Nasi Goreng sounds harmless: "15,000, my friend."
Now it gets difficult! How many photos does Andrea bring home from this trip? (Minus about a third that has already been deleted.) - We didn't know ourselves. But it's an incredible 22,294!
How much sunscreen did we need? How much mosquito repellent? - 1.6 liters of sunscreen and 1.1 liters of mosquito repellent
And how many sunglasses? - a total of 10... So René 9 and Andrea 1.
What is Andrea's favorite souvenir and how many of them did she buy? - Earrings. 9 pairs.
How many phones do you need for a year of travel? - René 3, Andrea 1.
How high would the pile of all the coconuts we drank be? - We would like to know ourselves!
After this overview in numbers, let's move on to a kind of rating:
Let's start with the dumbest injury. Who had it and what was it? - Well, the points definitely go to Andrea. But we still can't decide between the foot massage incident in Thailand and the peacock attack in India.
Where are the most beautiful men? Where are the most beautiful women? - India and Russia, respectively
How many rounds of Yatzy did we play last year? - 82. The score stands at 43 to 39 in favor of Andrea
Where did we have the best coffee in the world? - This is quite unexpected: At Akademia Kofe in Novosibirsk. We still dream about it!
In which country is the food the most delicious? - India!
What did we miss the most? What the least? - We missed cheese, friends and family, and cooking. Honestly, we didn't miss cleaning, bad weather, and work.
Which animal did we encounter the most on our journey? - Geckos in all colors, shapes, and sizes were constant roommates throughout Asia.
Where was it the hottest? Where was it the coldest? - We sweated buckets in Galle, Sri Lanka. We shivered on the Druk Path in Bhutan.
And finally: Where did we see the most wonderful, clearest starry sky? - In Mongolia, somewhere in the middle of nowhere while going to the toilet at night.
There were many funny moments last year! We share a few laughs with you in the form of a collection of signs. Our favorite is still the Indian toilet fees with different prices depending on the purpose.
Now we are looking forward to Switzerland and seeing all of you again!
