Port city of Marseille

After a very Spartan breakfast in Aix-En-Provence, we drove to Marseille. Regarding breakfast, I have to write the following. There was a container with some water and six egg sieves hanging in it. Hmmm, I had never seen anything like it and thought, okay, put an egg in one of these sieves and wait for 10 minutes. I already found it strange that the egg was not completely covered with water. But I also thought that it was a very special French way of cooking eggs. After more than 10 minutes, I took my egg out of the thing and beheaded it with a knife. Ugh, only gooey stuff ran out and I was looking forward to having an egg. Oh well..tomorrow I will definitely get a boiled egg :-)!

Now let's talk about Marseille. When we arrived in the city around 10:00 am, there were some veil clouds in the sky. I thought that was great and left my cap in the car. Stupid decision, because the clouds disappeared in no time and it was already very hot. We walked around the old port and visited the small fish market. Phew, there was already a lot of 'stinky-stinky' in the air. A huge tuna was being butchered by a woman, it was a very bloody affair. It was nice to see how much fish people were buying (and super cheap).

As we strolled along the harbor basin, I noticed the Hop-on Hop-off bus. We quickly got two tickets and sat down 'open air'. Littlefoot rested her head on the edge of the bus and looked out for the whole tour. We 'hopped off' twice :-) and among other things, visited the Notre-Dame de la Garde. The church was really impressive. From the top platform you have an incredible view of Marseille. What I found confusing was that you could/had to pay for the candles or even the 'pischi' with the Visa card. Really crazy, I paid 50 cents with the Visa for the 'pischi' in the church.

Well then, with my super empty bladder we visited the old town district Le Panier. We strolled through small alleys where the walls of the houses were sprayed with graffiti. Cute little cafes had their colorful tables and chairs outside and there were always numerous flower decorations in front of the facades. I could hardly get enough of this sight. Simply beautiful.

After Marseille, we drove up a pass in the Calanques National Park and had a wonderful view over Cassis, the rugged limestone cliffs, and the turquoise sea. Phew, the hairpin bends were already crazy, but the view was simply beautiful :-)

Now we have moved into our new accommodation. It is located above a wine village and we have an amazing view of the sea. We will stay here for the next three days. We want to go hiking here and visit some places.
