Diving Adventure Komodo

Objavljeno: 20.09.2018

You can't have been to Flores and have a diving license without exploring the beautiful underwater world of Komodo National Park. So we joined the very friendly people from Uber Scuba (the Swiss German explanation in the office gave extra sympathy points) and went on a long but extremely awesome day trip to the north of Komodo National Park.

We started early in the morning on a fully equipped dive boat with about 20 other people from all over the world and arrived at the first dive site 'Cauldron' around 10 o'clock.

The underwater currents can be quite strong here, which is why we were briefed on different scenarios for the upcoming dive. In the water, the current turned out to be quite harmless, but we were prepared. We jumped into the blue and slowly swam towards a narrower passage between two islands. At a depth of 22 meters, there is a sandy crater on the seabed where we spotted our first reef shark. In the shotgun, the narrowest point between the two islands, the current became stronger and we were able to hold on to the rocks with our hands and partly with hooks (of course not on corals) to enjoy the show of the fish.

After a short break, we went for the second round at Castle Rock. The rock, completely hidden in the water, offers a great drift dive. You enter the water and let yourself be carried all around before spending the rest of the time in its shadow. To our great delight, a fairly large eagle ray visited us right at the beginning. During the rest of the dive, we saw beautiful corals and fish everywhere - simply breathtaking!

The third dive after lunch was similar. Crystal Rock protrudes about one meter from the water, but otherwise it is similar to Castle Rock. Here we saw some reef sharks, and at one point, three of them looked at us at the same time. In addition to these larger marine predators, we observed huge schools of fish and encountered a large moray eel that unusually didn't just hide in its hole.

And because words can't really describe all the beauty and sights, here's another video for you:
