Christmas in a different way

Merry Christmas to everyone!!

This year we spent Christmas in a different way. Although everything here is beautifully decorated, the Christmas spirit didn't really come alive.

A manger...
A manger...

On December 24th, we took a bus from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai and made a stop at the White Temple Wat Rong Khun on the way. This temple was opened in 1997 and shows in a special way what modern temples in Thailand can look like. Officially, it is not a temple but a private art collection in the style of a temple - but it is treated like a temple (entrance fee, no shoes, appropriate clothing, lots of incense sticks).

In the evening, our group went to a food market for dinner, and as the grand finale of Christmas Eve, we watched a Ladyboy Show.

The show was amazing!!

Jakob wants to emphasize that never before have so many men touched him on the butt, kissed him on the cheek, and hit on him. Still - or maybe because of that ;) - he really enjoyed the show.

Even though this year Christmas Eve turned out to be different than ever before, we had a wonderful and fun day together with our newly made friends. Christmas will always remain something special.

On December 25th, we took a Thai cooking class with Laura, James, and Lucy.

And then our friends were bid farewell by the group. We decided to stay in Chiang Mai and not continue to Bangkok. This way, we save ourselves a night train and a travel day, and we gain more time in Chiang Mai. We will fly to Surat Thani on the 28th to explore the islands from there.
