The long journey to beautiful Fjordland

After the rainy last days in Queenstown we start early today - hoping that the weather will be better than predicted (rain, rain, rain...). We have to be at our bus to Milford Sound at 6.30. The first two hours we can catch up on some sleep, then we arrive in Te Anau. After a break, some more people join us and we head to Fjordland National Park. The drive on a small road surrounded by rocks takes almost 3 hours. On the way, we stop again and again to admire rivers, waterfalls or simply the gigantic mountains covered in mist. During one stop, we encounter a Kea, a small green New Zealand parrot. It wobbles across the road somewhat unsteadily, trying to make its way through the excited tourists. Finally, we arrive at the boat dock and the journey begins. An breathtaking scenery lies before us. Tall mountains covered in green vegetation. Waterfalls trickling into the water from time to time. Sea lions sprawled on the rocks in the water. We enjoy the view from the deck with a portion of Fish & Chips. Not a single drop of rain has fallen, but at the end of the journey we still get a little wet as we drive very close to one of the waterfalls. Then we have to take the bus all the way back. However, our driver makes the whole affair a bit more enjoyable with his humor. He tells us all sorts of things about Fjordland and New Zealand and makes everyone laugh.
