Once again, we reluctantly leave the very nice (and for the first time even hilly) campsite around noon....we could easily stay here for another day or two - but there is so much else we want to experience...
Today we are heading to Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark. Being smart, we search the internet for the best parking options for our monster, but maneuvering in the city is nerve-wracking. We head to the harbor where there are parking spaces with a 3-hour limit. As we enter, we notice that a construction site has been set up in the driveway - the only way to pass is on the sidewalk. Yay, no turning back. It takes some precision driving, but we just power through it with our eyes closed. And guess what, we manage to find an 8-meter parking spot here.
We unload our bikes and ride towards the city center. We immediately notice how bike-friendly everything is here, with incredibly heavy bike traffic. At times, we find ourselves in bike traffic jams at bike traffic lights (with their own lanes and turning lanes), it's a bit crazy, but awesome!
In the city center, there are countless bike parking options, but they're all full! So we simply park our bikes next to the hundreds of other bikes lined up on the sidewalk and continue on foot.
We take a walk through the very nice old town and have a meal directly next to the Aarhus River, as it is called here. On the way back, we catch a glimpse of Queen Margrethe's yacht anchored in the harbor. Looks like she made a trip to her summer residence at Marselisborg.
We continue towards Billund, and set up camp for the night in Riis. We take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool and enjoy the warm evening. Tomorrow we're going to Legoland...
