'Border experiences'

We had already heard some stories about crossing the border from Laos to Cambodia beforehand, and we can confirm that it is indeed an experience in itself. However, for Gitti and me, it had a bitter aftertaste because in the general chaos of leaving Laos, we fell victim to a so-called Laotian 'exit agent'. After we gave him $80 for the visa for Cambodia and our passports, he suddenly decided that we should take care of it ourselves. Annoyed, he gave us back our passports and the dollars. We were a bit confused ourselves and didn't count immediately, but half an hour later we realized that $25 was missing. Sh...., but respect for how he pulled it off. We'll be smarter next time. Otherwise, the border crossing into Cambodia was smooth, maybe a little bizarre. It felt like there were 20 border officers who had more or less nothing to do, but we had to show our passports a total of four times. They just wanted to feel a bit important, those officers decorated with medals. Once we arrived on the Cambodian side, we finally continued to Siem Reap by minibus after waiting for an hour and a half. The whole 'tour' covered 350 kilometers and lasted a whopping 12 hours. That's Asia for you!!! But it did take a toll on our nerves, so in the future we'll probably avoid overland transfers.
