Our trip began on September 12th with our first flight to Switzerland. Andy surprised us at the airport and we had a lovely day in the sun on his terrace. To say goodbye, we had delicious meat loaf and spaghetti with tomato sauce, which we won't eat again for a while.
The next morning we went to the airport early at 7 a.m. After a somewhat turbulent flight with crazy passengers and 4 films later after an excellent landing, we were greeted in Costa Rica by a monsoon-like rain shower.
Our first trip with the rental car was extremely exciting - true to the motto: we see absolutely nothing and where exactly does the road actually end.
Rarely have we experienced heavier rain than this - welcome to Costa Rica.
We'll have to get used to the rain.
The last 4 kilometers to the first hotel took some getting used to or, not to say, unreasonable. Dark floor, extremely steep, with potholes and without seeing exactly where the path begins or let alone ends, we drove the countless meters up to the hotel. We were told the path was only 2 kilometers long - after 3 kilometers we also questioned this statement and the condition of the road. However, Claudi once again demonstrated her excellent driving skills and brought us safely to our destination.
After more than 24 hours we fell into bed completely exhausted.
We spent the first two days exploring the hotel complex, testing the infinity pool and the jacuzzi, marveling at the volcano and trying our first typical Costa Rican dishes.
We still have to get used to the prices, as well as the sunrise and sunset times. While the sun has already risen here at 5:30 a.m., it sets again at 5 p.m., so that it is already completely dark at 6 p.m.
The rain comes and goes, the journey to the hotel is no less nerve-wracking even during the day, but the biodiversity of plants and animals is already great.
