BLOG 1 - The planned route

Публикувано: 03.07.2022

After taking over the truck camper in Seattle, first we drive through the North Cascade National Park in the state of Washington to Canada and the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. Then through Banff and Jasper National Parks in Alberta on the Yellowhead Highway and later the Cassiar Highway - with a few deviations - north to Watson Lake in the Yukon. Here we will have to decide whether we take the normal route via the Alaska Highway or a 'hard-core variant' via the Robert Campell Highway, Ross River and the South Canol Road (this is said to be almost impassable when it rains...). Next stops are scheduled to be Haines Junction and Whitehorse before continuing on the Klondike Highway to Dawson City. Even though we probably won't find any gold there, we want to continue to Alaska via the Top of the World Highway.

Just to explain: 'Highway' in these regions only means that it is just a negotiable road, very often only with a gravel surface.

In Alaska, heading south via the Tok Cut Off – with a detour to the mining ghost town of Kennicot. In Valdez will then take the ferry to Whittier and Seward will be the last stop before the drive's final destination: Anchorage.

Finally we fly to Kodiak Island - to hopefully see some of the famous - especially large - Kodiak Grizzly Bears.

On 08/28 should we be back in Austria.

Another note: there is neither internet nor telephone connection on estimated 90% of the route, so we cannot guarantee that the blog will be regularly updated - if you are interested, just check in occasionally.
