Our day was very busy. In the morning, we went to Barcelona Airport. We didn't have a routable address for the car rental return station. We assumed it would be well signposted like at other airports. But of course, it wasn't. They also have Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, but there were no signs for a 'Rent a Car Return'. So we ended up taking a tour of the airport. But we eventually found it. Then we took the bus to the city center.
Barcelona, in terms of population, is slightly larger than Munich. It's one of the European cities with the highest population density and with the highest number of visitors. It's very touristy. So we went from Placa de Catalunya to La Sagrada Familia, the construction of which has been ongoing since the 18th century and is still not finished. Antonio Gaudi planned it and left his mark all over the city. We also had our 'gaudi' (fun) with the Gaudi. We wanted to visit his park but found out at 11:30 a.m. that there were no more tickets available for today.
In Barcelona, Seville, and Granada, they are already masters of tourist control.
You can only enter if you book online in advance, with an ID and credit card. As a cash-paying day visitor, you're second choice. Point for Valencia😉.
So we went back down the extra mountain we climbed to the actual cathedral of Barcelona. Old buildings like these always need renovation, so they are often scaffolded, just like ours. We continued on to another Gaudi building, to the port, and took the underground regional train back to the hostel. We walked about 15 km that day.
I've written way too much again... just take a look at the photos.
