Tag 46: Fraser Island Tour I

Публикувано: 11.10.2017

7:20am. We will be picked up by bus from our caravan park and taken to the ferry. This early start can only be saved by a delicious Flat White at the pier. On the crossing to Fraser Island, you can apparently see whales and other marine creatures. Unfortunately, we don't see anything. The day has other surprises in store for us.

On the island, we will be greeted by our tour guide, Hayden, and the big off-road bus. We will spend the next two days with both of them. The first few meters down the bumpy sand slope are quite bumpy. What a rollercoaster ride. Luckily, it's the other cars that clear the way for US.

Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world, with surprisingly much greenery and a large fresh water reservoir inside. Our highlight of the island is also the first stop: Lake McKenzie. Radiantly white sand filled with deep blue rainwater. WOW!

We continue with a hike through the forest. Instead of dingoes, which are famous for the island, we see too many large spiders (two of them) and a spider's nest on the way, for my taste. Our tour guide explains in detail what kind of poisonous spider lives here. Fortunately, most accidents with spiders occur while digging in the backyard and swimming in the heated pool. Phew. We follow the motto: Don't touch anything while hiking in Australia and keep a distance from all animals.

To end this day appropriately, we go to the pier and admire the beautiful, colorful sunset.

We spend the rest of the evening with our young, great fellow travelers. That's the beauty of tours compared to campsites. We get to know many more friendly travelers who make traveling even more beautiful.
