Many already know but for all those who were worried about us - we are alive. The tropical storm "Pabuk" spared Koh Phangan and moved from the Gulf of Thailand to the Andaman Sea on Friday afternoon. There were heavy rains and winds but no major action. We even went swimming in the sea. The media once again made a lot of drama out of nothing and in retrospect, I'm glad we didn't leave the island like thousands of other tourists. However, I must admit that I was a bit scared on Thursday. Our resort is located DIRECTLY by the sea and when the media predicted waves of 3-5 meters high, I just wanted to get to safety. A phone call with dad and the reassurance from a few locals and tourists calmed me down. Michel and Josephine (who arrived in Koh Phangan just in time on December 31) were also my rock and prevented panic from taking over. After three days of bad weather, the sun was shining again yesterday and apart from a few small devastations on the streets, everything was back to normal.
Now for the nice part: I fell in love with Koh Phangan! That's why two or three weeks turned into. This island radiates so many positive vibes and such tranquility that you immediately feel safe and secure (initially in the jungle we couldn't feel much of it).
In addition to the locals, there are many immigrants from all over the world here, mostly from Israel. The Israelis have made themselves comfortable here and will soon take over the island. Since I've been to Israel before, I knew that most young Israelis are very open and friendly people. On Koh Phangan, they are also very relaxed. Probably because of all the yoga they do.
The sunset at Zen Beach, where musicians meet almost every evening and offer a free jam session, is a must-see or rather must-experience. It was magical. There, I also had the opportunity to try Acro-Yoga for the first time and I'm absolutely thrilled about it!
Now we're enjoying the remaining days here and one thing is as certain as the amen in church: Koh Phangan, we'll see you again.
Hopefully you all had a smooth slide and a good and strong start to 2019. I wish you lots of motivation and determination to make your resolutions come true! But most importantly, stay healthy, find your inner peace, and spend many beautiful moments with your loved ones.
PS: The next blog entry may not be until 2 weeks.
