The cheapest and faster city to visit in Uruguay l from Buenos Aires is Colonia del Sacramento or just Colonia. I found pretty spontaneously a couchsurfing host there.
I was kinda tired and probably a shit conversationalist but that's ok from time to time. I started the day before at 10:00 in the morning and arrived that day at 20:00 at Andres' place. A 30h journey is rough, even tho I'm already pretty used to it. Andres was so nice to show us, that's the two Brazilian girls and me, around in the old part of the city. I thought Argentina is chill but Uruguayans seem to have reinvented the chillness. I've not seen a single person who seemed to be in a hurry or even being stressed. The city resembles that in a wonderful calm way. We went up that lighthouse. This is from it's top. The city is incredible green. Parrots were shooting through the trees, it really feels like a place to grow at. The old part of the city is famous for it's old, colorful buildings and is part of the UNESCO world heritage. Like so many coastal cities, Colonia was used by the Spanish as a castle to enforce their claim over the land when they settled there. And it's super safe.. this bike was parked in front of a shopping mall, not even locked or hidden. I bought a sim card for 140 Uruguayan Pesos (3,5€) That included a starting credit of 275 pesos, the sim itself and a promotion of 5GB data free. What will I do if I need more data? Damn right, I'll just buy a new sim 😂 I found this while I strolled through the city. And this is the beach they got but I've been there pretty late and didn't bring equipment for swimming. A refreshment would have been nice but not totally necessary and honestly the water is kinda muddy. The sun down was cool tho! As I'm writing this blog entry I'm already in the next town, Mercedes which is well known for.. well nothing really. No attractions but I like to take a (short) break from touristy places. There is a cool beach around which I probably will check out tomorrow. Oh and if you did not participate in my little riddle game, it's not too late yet. There is time until tomorrow evening, I'll resolve on Saturday and you can win a cool individual postcard!
