This morning, I said goodbye to the capital and started my round trip with a rental car. My first stop was the archaeological site of Teotihuacán with its world-famous pyramids, the Sun Pyramid and the Moon Pyramid. The site, which stretches over 2 square kilometers, is an impressive place. At its peak, the city covered over 20 square kilometers and had up to 125,000 inhabitants.
The second stop was the capital of the smallest Mexican state, Tlaxcala, known as the "Ciudad Rojo" (Red City) due to the many terracotta and ochre tones of the house facades. In a pulqueria, I tried Pulque for the first time, a mildly alcoholic beverage similar to beer, but made from agave like tequila. It is served plain or with various fruit flavors. I liked it!
The third and final stop for today is Puebla, also the capital of the state of the same name. My hotel has named its rooms after famous Mexican women, and I ironically got the "Sor Juana" room, a nun and poetess... After a walk through the Centro Historico, I ate two classics of Mexican cuisine in a great restaurant: Ensalada de Nopales (cactus pear salad) and Mole Poblano (chicken with chocolate sauce, not sweet!). Thanks Beto for the recommendation!
