Mobile living

Публикувано: 16.11.2019

Two days ago we received our motorhome in Cairns. It's called Ducato, first name Fiat, and is equipped with everything necessary for two people - to our satisfaction, just as promised in the travel brochure. Even though the friendly young Australian in the company office spoke a bit fast, we hopefully understood everything you need to know about living on wheels, such as how to fill your own water tank and empty the wastewater, or how the power supply works.

Well, we survived the first two days without any major breakdowns and have already stayed at two very nice campsites. Thanks to the tip from a friendly taxi driver in Cairns, we have already found an affordable supermarket and stocked up the fridge.

First travel conclusion: the Australian roads are well built, clearly signposted, and wide enough so that we don't break out in cold sweat when encountering giant-sized trucks. Unfortunately, the local wallabies are not accustomed to traffic, as the numerous animal carcasses along the roadside prove. Not a pleasant sight.

On the other hand, the scenery is beautiful but very dry. Many trees and palms are so dry that it's no wonder that some bushfires are raging in the south. Because some of you have already asked: No, we haven't noticed anything about the bushfires yet and have made unhindered progress so far on the so-called 'Bruce Highway', which leads south along the coast.
