Strand von Jurmala | Riga 3/5 📍

I experienced a very special atmosphere in the morning at Riga's central market. Countless traders offer their products in old Zeppelin halls. There are separate halls for meat, fish and general food such as baked goods or cheese. There are also plenty of fruit and vegetable sellers outside. Everything is pretty real and unpretentious, for example whole pigs (without heads, innards, etc.) hang on the butchers' hooks and are cut up for display on the counter. The omnipresent smell in the fish hall should not be underestimated either.

At the market I was able to find everything I needed for my trip to Jūrmala. Jūrmala is about 40 minutes by train from Riga and is the seaside resort par excellence. I suspect that because of the former Soviet occupation, I mainly met Russian-speaking people who have since settled here. Equipped with fresh food, a towel and swimwear, I worked on my tan, enjoyed the sea from outside and inside and was able to catch up on some sleep in the quiet surroundings 😴 I particularly liked the fact that it was not at all crowded. In summer the region will be much more visited.

On my last evening in Riga I had pizza with Magnus and here Riga knew how to surprise us again. The drink garnished with candy floss and the pizza with goat cheese and pistachios was simply a dream 🤩

Tomorrow I'll be taking the bus to Tallinn in Estonia. I'm excited to see what happens there. The first plans are already underway 😊 I can say about Riga that it's a great city that conveys a relaxed attitude to life, similar to Vilnius. In comparison, however, there's a lot more going on here - the city is really pulsating, especially in the evenings. And as the saying goes, Riga is definitely worth more visits 🤗
