The week started for me in Hetta with an 18 km hike through the Finnish forest. During these hours, I was eaten alive by mosquitoes. There was no chance of a relaxing break.
On Tuesday, I went to Norway and visited the first silversmith in Norway. It was founded in 1959 by the German Regine and the Dane Frank. What's special is that they make Sami jewelry according to old designs. On Wednesday, I reached my destination: the parking lot at Alta Canyon. The journey was adventurous and unfortunately, the canyon was not accessible yet because the streams to cross had too much water due to the melting snow. Instead, I took a hike to a waterfall from where you can get a glimpse of the beginning of the canyon.
The next day, I went from the same parking lot to the next waterfall: Orvvosfossen. Since the beginning of the hiking trail is not signposted, there were no other people around. Most people come here because of Alta Canyon. However, Orvvosfossen was totally worth it.
On Friday, I arrived in Alta. The city has nothing to offer except for the church. The church was inspired by the Northern Lights. There is a recommended museum: the Alta Museum, which is also a World Heritage Site. Here you can find rock carvings that are up to 7000 years old.
I was actually in Alta because Julian arrived here on Saturday. I spent the waiting time with a short hike to the local mountain of Alta, from where you have a beautiful view of the fjord and the snow-covered mountains.
I had a highlight of the entire trip on Sunday. We went to the North Cape! The drive there was marked by wonderful views. On the way back, we will catch up on some pictures along the route. The parking lot at the cape is free and nothing stands in the way of spending a night at the northernmost point of the mainland. When we stood at the globe, we even saw whales in the water - or rather, the spouts they emitted. We hope that the clouds will clear a bit more and that we can enjoy the midnight sun to the fullest here. For me, standing here is something very special. I'm glad that I threw my worries overboard a few weeks ago and now I'm here.
