Neuharlingersiel

After a long day of travel – sleep in! Unfortunately, theory and practice don't always go together. I was woken up by the sheep from the dike at around 5:30 a.m. It's only one lane away from our accommodation. Luckily, the sheep's conversation didn't last long and I was able to go back to sleep.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. I was ready for the day; I put on my shoes, borrowed a rain jacket and headed outside. It was no longer raining, it was getting muggy and some guests were already leaving Carolinensiel. After a very extensive and delicious breakfast, I got on my bikes. The destination was Neuharlingersiel. Work on the dike prevented me from cycling on it. So I rode in the right direction on the bike path, avoided oncoming cyclists and always called out "Moin" in the right direction.

I think it was 30 years ago that I last visited Neuharlingersiel. A lot has happened visually that has changed the appearance of the town. Of course there are still crab boats and other boats in the harbor, and the bottle ship museum was no longer in the same place. Back then it was like a big living room, with the bottle ships in the big windows and lots of children standing in front of them, pressing their noses flat and being amazed. Now the house has moved to the second row and is NEW. Closed today, Sunday, and looks really new. The charm was somehow lost in the move.

We quickly took a look at the small MEERMAID shop, which has beautiful things - and another look at the HAUS DES GASTES in the Sielhof with a wedding chapel. It is a restaurant and café. It was very nice, old tiles in the entrance area, a fireplace in another room, a wonderful terrace and a winter garden. The garden in front also shows a lot of attention to detail.

We had espresso and other things in the restaurant opposite the BADE WERK and then headed back - with the wind at our backs. We quickly bought some food for dinner, brought the spoils into the kitchen, had a quick rest, enjoyed a tea/coffee and then got back on the bikes. Now we went to a SCHILD farm shop with a restaurant. Lots of sheep on the dike accompanied us. They also sell lots of things for the kitchen, house and farm.

Now we quickly head to the sea. Surprisingly, that was also the case on site. The parking space for the mobile homes had become quite empty. Then, to our amazement, a sailing ship was towed into the harbor. Many of the other guests at the harbor had never seen anything like it. Hopefully nothing dramatic happened to the boat and the boat crew; the mast was still there .

Back on the bikes and for a delicious fish dinner.

What a beautiful day without rain and many new impressions of the North Sea.

See you soon!
