Over half a year ago, we planned a surprise visit home during a bout of homesickness and booked a round-trip flight from Bali to Zurich. And so, on the 23rd of December, it was time. In the morning, we first flew from Bali to Singapore, where we had a layover of nearly 10 hours. Since we really like Singapore, it was clear that we would enter the country during this time, and we had already planned where to have the best food. However, we had forgotten to check the day of the week, so at least the vegan stands in the planned food court were closed. Luckily, Mathias remembered a vegan restaurant nearby where we had been before, and even more excitingly, there unexpectedly was an Assam Laksa for Lea, which is not so easy to find in Singapore.
So Mathias was able to eat a famous claypot rice in the food court without feeling guilty.
Afterwards, we took a walk through a familiar area in Singapore, treating ourselves to an ice-cold freshly squeezed orange juice from the ijooz vending machine and passing by a 'traditional Christmas market'.
After one or two other stops in the city, we made our way back to the airport to pay a visit to the famous Changi Jewel. The shopping center at the airport that has an indoor rainforest and waterfall. Pretty crazy but also impressive.
After a few more hours of waiting, it was finally time. We only had a 13-hour flight ahead of us. As mentioned above, our visit home was planned as a surprise, but over the course of the year, things changed a bit and there were only a few people left who we could actually surprise. But we succeeded in that. In addition to spending a lot of time at home, we also spent some days in Halle and Berlin. We had a lot of beautiful reunion moments, enjoyed the beautiful nature, and as always, delicious food.
Although the time was very intense, many highlights remain in memory - surprised faces, 14-hour brunch, a 19-course menu at Arlberg, the layer of fog on the way to Switzerland, a cozy start to the new year, Las Katszas concert, game nights, and above all, many dear people!
