The first few days in New Zealand were quite cold for us, which is understandable when you spend the last 5 months in summer. 😉 We landed in Auckland and stayed there for a couple of days to take care of everything. Opening a bank account, buying a car, getting insurance, looking for jobs, and applying for a tax number. Just when someone says that work and travel is not bureaucratic. :) Well, okay, maybe it wasn't as difficult as in Germany, actually it was quite easy. ;) You simply go to the bank with a confirmation from the hostel that you're currently staying with them, and you already have half of the account. The other half is a lot of signing, and after half an hour, you have a New Zealand bank account. ;) We had already spotted a car, but unfortunately, they wanted $7000 from us, well, we didn't have that, our limit was $5000. After some negotiating and the fact that they had to leave the country in 3 days, we now own a Nissan Elgrand Camping Van named Homy for $5k. 😍 Changing the ownership here is even easier than the bank account, you simply go to the post office, fill out a form for the buyer and seller, pay $8, and the ownership is transferred. 😂 It's the same process for the tax number, go to the post office, fill out a form, submit it, wait, and after 9 days, we received an SMS with our numbers. 😂 Easy Cheesy! We also found a job, so now we're working in Paengaroa at a kiwi plantation, trimming kiwi bushes or collecting wood. 😂 Oh, and the best part, Angie is working alone for now, and I'm bored in the van because this clumsy guy, me, had a freefall from the trailer and now my knee is done for. 😂 It's not a big deal, in one or two weeks it should be fine again. 😉
