With heavy luggage, we drove to the train station early in the morning to store it.
Today was the tourist highlight in terms of crowds. Half of Italy (oh what the heck - half of Europe) was in Rome. The subway was so crowded that the children and I managed to get in, but Anita couldn't. The children were a little scared, but we met again at the train station.
There was already the next challenge. We looked for the luggage storage - and there was a queue that was a hundred meters long. So we kept looking - and actually - at a private storage station the queue was much shorter and luckily they took our big suitcases last.
Now we were relieved in the truest sense of the word and we went to the Colosseum, towards the Capitoline Museum, the oldest museum in the world.
Very impressive was what we saw there - especially from ancient times, including the huge statue of Constantine, many gold coins and gemstones, paintings by Caravaggio, and much more.
After 3 hours, we had gone through every room. The adults were tired, the children still motivated and full of energy.
But time was running out. Because the train was already leaving in an hour and of course we had to eat a farewell ice cream. Besides, the distances in Rome are always long, even if they look short on the map.
Now we are already on the train, and if all goes well, we will arrive in Villach around 4:00 a.m. And hopefully our motorhome is still at the train station.
