Bamboo, street food and yakiniku

Our last day in Kyoto started with a big breakfast before we went on another journey of discovery through the city.

We started with a walk and a short bus ride to the Kodai Ji Temple. We actually wanted to go to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest today, but since the trip takes half a day and we wanted to see other things, we decided on Kodai-Ji.

There is also a bamboo forest here. Although it is smaller than the famous one in Arashiyama, it is deserted. The temple was also very, very beautiful and the first where you don't have to squeeze through the complex with crowds of people. Beautiful sight and very relaxing.

Later we wanted to visit Nijo Castle. We were even sitting on the bus when we discovered a little “accident” at Kian’s place 😂

Since we unfortunately didn't have a change of clothes with us, we got out in the shopping area and quickly bought him new things.

With fresh diapers and fancy new clothes, we crossed the castle off our list and spent the rest of the day in the district.

We strolled through the alleys and the Nishiki market. There is a lot of street food here. I really liked that - I love that sort of thing.

We had small Japanese mini cakes, a large packet of rice seasoning, a taco and a skewer of Kobe meat.

In fact, Kobe tastes very different than regular beef. Super juicy and delicious. By the way, we had to pay €13. That's super little compared to what you pay for Kobe in Germany.

In the evening we went to eat at a super chic restaurant. We had reserved a table there the day before. This form of food is called Yakiniku. You get a selection of meat and vegetables and then grill them on the grill in the tabletop.

We had a mix beef platter and a Wagyu platter. And what should we say? We have never eaten such good meat. The Wagyu was incredibly good, but even the “normal” plate tasted heavenly. So if you eat meat and are in Japan, you should definitely try this out. It was just great.

For dessert there was a small selection from 7/11, which unfortunately I didn't photograph anymore. There was a brownie, a cookie and a piece of strawberry cake.

For me it was the most beautiful day in Japan so far because it was perfect all around. We definitely want to come back to Kyoto one day - after all, we still have to see the castle.

Now we're taking the Shinkansen to Hiroshima. The train leaves at 10 and that means getting up early for us 😅

Let's see if the Shinkansen is on time this time.
