The first night on the bus passed without any major incidents.
After a short coffee, we continued to the World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte. The Saarland, like the Ruhr area, is historically a mining region with corresponding steel production.
Shopping at Weingut Boesen
In case you didn't know: Mosel-Saar-Ruwer is one of the best wine-growing regions in Germany, especially for white wine.
So off to the Weingut Boesen. A grumpy winemaker let us taste their wines. When asked if the Rivaner had a bitter aftertaste, he said 'No'. In the end, we bought three crates (no Rivaner). The winemaker gave us a bottle of Rivaner as a gift :-)
We then continued along the Mosel towards Cologne.
Cologne was covered in a traffic jam network, so we drove through it and bought our dinner. Now we can say we've been to Cologne.
In the afternoon, we arrived in Bochum at the Wasserfreunde Ruhr.
Five minutes of showering with warm water for 50 cents, and more.
More about the Ruhr area in the next entries.
In the background, the river from which the area gets its name.
