Day 5 - Austria!

Апублікавана: 25.07.2018

The evening before, we spent with our fingers on the map and in the pitch app on the handheld device.

The planned trip to Lake Constance was abandoned and we were drawn to Austria. There was a parking space at the Silvretta Reservoir, which meant we had to climb the Silvretta High Alpine Road. Sleeping in the middle of the mountains, we thought that must be something special.

So we packed up our camp at Lake Constance and went shopping first, then refueled. We were able to buy a vignette there as well. 9 euros for 16 days, that's okay.

Off to Austria! We can't avoid a stretch of highway, but we don't mind. The mountains came closer and grew bigger. So we got off the highway and drove through the quaint villages towards the Silvretta Reservoir.

Before we tackle the serpentine roads, we pass through the small town of Schruns in Montafon. I've been here with my family many times when I was a little boy. Time for a trip back to the past.

I indulge in memories for a while and then we head up to the reservoir.

And once again, we are amazed at how our Oddo leaves the mountains behind. We expected more difficulties. And as we would later discover, the fuel consumption was below 10 L again.
Once we reached the Silvretta Reservoir, we marveled at the beautiful scenery once again.

A few hundred meters further, there should be a small parking space, which we headed to. The approach was steep and the place was disappointing... construction site with a view of sewer pipes. That was not for us, so we continued driving.
There were no other parking spaces nearby, so we went back down the high alpine road on the other side. In the small town of WIRL, there should be a parking space that appealed to us. When we arrived there, we found out that the so-called parking space was actually just a parking lot. Gravel, no emptying or power supply, but the main road within reach. The municipal administration wanted to charge us 17.50 euros for this gem. So we drove on. We found out that in the town of MATHON there is a parking space for 15 motorhomes and there should still be some available. Unfortunately, they only offered us a place on the main road as there is currently a construction site at the parking space. We accepted our fate and stayed there.
You can
You can't always stay in a fancy place.

But the surroundings were nice to look at.

It was clear that we wouldn't stay here another night, so we made plans for the next day.

Conclusion:
In Austria, driving is relaxed
Not every parking space is a stroke of luck
Mountains are great
Oddo doesn't drink much even in the mountains
When a screw on the fly screen door loosens and disappears, the door becomes unstable.
