Boiling Earth

After a rather pleasant night at the YHA Hostel (thanks to a stolen fan ^^), I took a shuttle to Wai-O-Tapu Park today. The smell of sulfur was even stronger here than in Rotorua, and thanks to the rain, it was also quite humid. Nevertheless, the park was very impressive and definitely worth the trip. Starting with a geyser (unfortunately only bubbling for 30 seconds) to red-blue pools and poisonous yellow lakes. Since we were only five people, the Stray 'replacement bus' picked us up directly at the park and then went to Lake Anhiwhenua. This is a slightly different Stray stop than usual, as the lodge here is run by a Maori family who want to improve the contact between tourism and Maori culture. For example, we were able to watch how a traditional Hangi is prepared (and of course eat :)) or how the typical Mauri war dance goes.

Tonight I get to sleep directly under the roof, which is a shaky climbing adventure, but I have a lot of space 😊
