Lysebotn

Finally, the time has come, another cycling highlight for me, the road up from Lysebotn. It had rained all night and there was a strong wind that shook us up, as we were a little exposed. Sleeping well was far away.

At least it had stopped raining, and the sun occasionally peeked through the low-hanging clouds, but it was really cold and the wind was still quite strong. The fog had cleared and the view was magnificent.

I really wanted to ride the route, so I bundled up and filled my water bottle with warm tea. Della didn't need to say anything, his expression said it all about my plan. Let's go, first a stretch on the plateau, with the road dotted with descents and climbs. The dreamy landscape made up for the wind and the cold, and the cute sheep by the roadside added to the amusement.

Then it went downhill, and the longer the brake-intensive descent lasted, the more I doubted whether I would be able to ride up this route again, despite the switchbacks, it was quite steep. At the very bottom there is a 1.1 km long narrow tunnel, which I spared myself, so I took off my thick clothes, turned around, and off we go!

Surprisingly, I made my way up curve after curve quite well, although I was a little disappointed, as I imagined the route would offer a lot of views, which unfortunately was not the case. At the Kjerag Parking lot, I met Della, who had made good use of the time with coffee and a brownie.

For me, it continued uphill, back to the plateau and on the dreamy route to Suleskard. This part of the route is highly recommended, and the motivating gestures of oncoming drivers, as well as the kind words of especially Norwegian people along the road, are really uplifting!

The timing was perfect, as soon as I arrived at our meeting point, Della and Louise turned the corner.

Then we continued southwards, unintentionally choosing a road that is not frequented by tourists. We drove leisurely through the area and just let ourselves be carried away by it, nice and relaxed.

After days without showers, we decided to camp so that I could also charge my laptop and allow you to read these lines. Good night!
