Hello again!
Time flies and now I have arrived in Kuala Lumpur after spending the last two nights in Georgetown.
Fortunately, I'm only staying here for one night because there are 33 beds in my hostel room and only 2 of them are occupied. If all of them were occupied, it would probably be even worse, but it's already a bit creepy to sleep alone in such a huge room...
Tomorrow, the 4-day jungle tour in Taman Negara National Park starts from here! I'm really looking forward to it😍
So now let's talk about my recent experiences...
On my last day in Langkawi, I rented a scooter to go to the "Langkawi Sky Bridge" viewpoint. The ride took about 30 minutes and despite my lack of sense of direction, I didn't get lost. I was pretty proud of myself... I really enjoy riding scooters and the cool breeze makes the stuffy 32 degrees bearable.
First, you take the "Sky Cab," a long cable car ride that takes about 5 minutes. Even from here, you get a great view. The landscape is beautiful, with dense jungle and mountains, and you can catch a glimpse of a few beaches. The same goes for the view from the Langkawi Sky Bridge. It offers a picturesque landscape and I have to really take in the fact that I'm actually standing on this bridge.
First, I go to a café and enjoy the first delicious cappuccino (even with latte art) in 4 days. For the rest of the day, I plan to relax on the beach - that's the way to live!
On Saturday morning, I make my way to the ferry, which takes about 3 hours to Penang. Georgetown is the capital of the island of Penang. The special thing here is the many cultural offerings, museums, street art corners, and culinary diversity (more of my interest).
To be honest, I didn't really research the must-see places in this popular city in advance. Since my interest in art is limited, I decide not to visit any of the many museums. The scorching heat (33 degrees) and the many tourists also annoy me a bit, so I limit my activities to trying out different restaurants and staying hydrated.
I'm starting to enjoy traveling alone more and doing only what I feel like doing.
After a hearty breakfast the next day, I look for a spa to treat myself to the first massage (90 minutes for just under 20€) of this vacation. After all, my life is really tough at the moment😋
In the afternoon, I visit the botanical garden, which is a good alternative to the bustling city. It's nothing special, but it's a nice place for a leisurely walk.
In the garden, I am approached by a Malaysian Chinese who seems very interested in Europeans and their lifestyle. We have a really nice conversation and after a while, he invites me to show me the best local food spots. I certainly can't refuse this offer. We ride on his scooter to a Chinese street food corner and he orders a little bit of everything. I told him that I'm vegetarian, but the Chinese believe that a little bit of meat is okay for vegetarians..😅 But I won't complain and try everything.
Later, we have a beer and then he takes me back to my hotel. It was an interesting evening and I also learn a lot about myself here. If someone had asked me if I would go out to eat alone with a local, I wouldn't have known what to answer. But in the end, it was worth it.
So that's it again, until next time!
Hugs and kisses 😘
Yours, Mary
