This time, I'm traveling through Northern England and Scotland with a dear friend. We start in Manchester and travel along England's east coast via Haworth and York to Scarborough. From there, we head towards Scotland via Whitby and Bamburgh. We have a rental car, so we can stop wherever we want.
Haworth is an immediate hit: The former home of the Brontë siblings charms with its idyllic lanes, pretty houses, and lovingly decorated shop windows. The atmosphere is magical, even though it's raining and our feet are soon getting wet.
York, although larger, is no less romantic: Narrow lanes, picturesque streets like 'The Shambles', the minster with ivory-colored towers, and cozy teahouses give the place a lot of charm.
On the route between Scarborough and Bamburgh, Whitby is my personal highlight with the ruins of the former abbey and the sweet old town, where we enjoy a mandatory afternoon tea. Then we continue to Scotland...
