Jan 4, 2017: Carnarvon Shire and the Blowholes

Апублікавана: 17.01.2017

Carnarvon served as a small stopover. For some reason, the air here was no longer as dry and therefore more tropical. As a result, this place is actually one of the few in Western Australia where fruits like bananas can be grown. Additionally, there are quite a few palm trees growing there, which also contribute to the tropical atmosphere.

A curiosity was a public toilet. The door could only be opened electrically by pressing a button. Inside, there was a separate container for syringes, and as soon as you activated the equally electronically controlled locking mechanism, an incredibly relaxing piece of music played from the speakers. You could basically shoot up here, dispose of the syringe, and enjoy the trip directly in this room with soothing music. It was quite dubious.

But our plan was to visit the Blowholes and spend the night there. The place is not really mentioned in tourist books and websites and is more of a hidden gem. We found out about it through a travel blog. Within the coastal rocks, there are small cave systems at this location where pressure builds up due to the breaking of the waves. This pressure is then discharged as a fountain. With the addition of a sunset, it was a splendid spectacle.

We slept in the car right by this coast. The wind was really roaring loudly and you could hear the waves breaking constantly. I somehow felt like I could be washed away by a 'king's wave' at any moment. But despite that, it was a spectacular spot and therefore a good choice for spending the night.
