07.03 and 08.03, the last weekend

On Sunday morning, Carlotta's aunt picked us up and we went to church, but a different church this time. There were more people there and the atmosphere was much nicer. There was a lot of singing and you could sing along to the songs as the lyrics were projected onto a screen. I liked the church service much better than the previous one. Normally, after the church service, you shake hands with everyone near you, but here we were not allowed to do that because of the coronavirus. Instead, everyone should wave and smile at each other.

After church, we went to Carlotta's grandfather's sister and I met all sorts of family members who were all very nice and friendly. We had Jollof rice with chicken and fried bananas and watched some TV. There are really good movies on free TV here (e.g., The Chronicles of Narnia or the Maze Runner).

After we were full and rested, we went to a mall with Carlotta's aunt because she wanted to do some shopping. We were both very impressed by the supermarket. You can really get everything there, from groceries to household products, furniture, safes, sports equipment, or just trophies. Here in Ghana, there are jobs for every little thing. For example, at the cash register, there is the cashier, then someone who packs the purchased products into plastic bags, someone who puts away the basket, and someone who stamps the receipt when leaving the store. At the gas station, you don't have to fill up your own tank either because there is an employee at each pump who fills it up for you.

When we came home, we had Fufu with light soup for dinner. Fufu is a starchy porridge made from cassava or yam, served as a dumpling. With Banku and Kenkey, it is one of the typical national dishes here and it tastes really delicious.

On Saturday, Carlotta and I went to the beach to really relax and enjoy the sun. At first, the beach was completely empty, but around noon it got super crowded. Luckily, we were hardly bothered by any guys. We swam quite a bit, but you really have to be careful with the waves here and read a lot. Later, we had a nice conversation with a young woman who was also upset about the amount of plastic in the sea. When we arrived, it wasn't so bad, but throughout the day it got worse. There were black plastic bags, water sachets, and much more floating everywhere in the water. A real plastic soup. We didn't feel like swimming anymore. But then we were distracted because we played babysitters for a little girl whose mother wanted to go swimming. At the end of the day, we noticed that we may have enjoyed the sun a little too much because we both had really uncomfortable sunburns. Oops.
