28.04.2022 We started with a packed bike and a full supply bag for the 11-hour train ride directly to Zagreb via Heidelberg.
The bike was well stored on the train and my seat was right next to it. Although they were not the reserved seats, as the train arrived with a changed composition, unfortunately I didn't have enough time to find the wagon with my reserved seat.
With beautiful weather, we traveled through southern Germany and Austria, on the same route as almost a year before to Villach. There I also received the announcement from the conductor that part of the train continues towards Venice and the rest goes to Zagreb. Some confusion in the compartment, not only me had no idea where the front and back of the train were. I decided to get off with my bike and luggage to better understand the situation on the platform and indeed I had to change the train part and also found my originally reserved seats. Now the train was well occupied and we continued towards Zagreb via Slovenia. With exit and entry control by Slovenian and Croatian officials.
The arrival in Zagreb was very positive. The twilight was just breaking, the temperatures were pleasant, and I felt physically underutilized due to the long sitting. I would have been ready to pedal and start cycling.
However, I already had a booking and my apartment was in the middle of the pedestrian zone. I was able to compensate for my physical imbalance by carrying my bike and luggage to the 4th floor. Due to the time, my dinner destination was Mc D. and so the day ended with the Europa League semi-final (Frankfurt-Betis), fast food, and a hot shower. Pure luxury for Mr. and Ms. Right.
