Bwabwata National Park

Nəşr edilmişdir: 19.09.2024

We start the day early again with a game drive in Bwabwata National Park, which crosses the Angolan border to the north and the Botswana border to the south.

We choose the route that can only be driven by a four-wheel-drive Jeep and is located north of the Okavango.

At the park entrance, a thorough check is conducted to determine who enters the park.

The park covers a total area of 6,100 square kilometers and is home to approximately 100 animal and 400 bird species. Until 1989, the Namibian military was stationed in this area.

We see only a few of the 500 animals, and I can photograph even fewer because they hide behind bushes or are too far away for my camera.

After a short lunch break, we set off into the Mahango Core Area of Bwabwata National Park, which we can traverse with our bus, albeit it's quite bumpy. We are now north of the Okavango.

This park is also home to many really nice-looking elephants. However, their enormous hunger causes significant damage. We repeatedly pass trees that have been eaten or uprooted by them.

We are very lucky and see a hippo pool - the river here is not deep enough for them to completely submerge. Normally, they are fully underwater and only come to the surface for a short time after 5 to 7 minutes to catch their breath.

Shortly after, a hippo stands on the grass and eats. What a sight!

We get very close to crocodiles and enjoy watching the warthogs playing around.

Today, we have seen animals for the first time again.

An interesting and eventful day!
