What a start to my stay here... first the debacle with the credit card, then today I bought a SIM card and of course the mobile data isn't working for some reason - unfortunately, it is essential here because you shouldn't roam around alone without Uber in many places. New mission: Get my mobile data to work tomorrow.
Today, I went to the Old Biscuit Market in Woodstock with the other interns - highly recommended! You can buy and try incredibly beautiful jewelry, colorful, amazing clothes, and most importantly, lots of delicious food from all over the world. I loved the Tanzanian rice cakes the most, seasoned with cardamom and so on - very sweet, but very tasty!
In the afternoon, I went to the beach in Camps Bay with my roommates. I can't imagine ever getting used to the views here... everything is breathtaking!
Tonight, we had another FullHouse, we made a bonfire in the courtyard and enjoyed a cozy evening.
I also learned a few phrases in Afrikaans:)
- 'sharp, sharp' is what you say when something is very good, just like 'shame'
- 'lekker' is also a very commonly used word when something is good, but boys and girls can also be very lekker :D
- 'rad' sounds like 'red' but means radical (I learned this because we threw blue cardboard into the fire and the South Africans who were visiting said 'it's rad' and I said 'no, it's blue' and everyone laughed at me --> here, 'it's blue' means something is very sad)
So, that's it from day two - let's hope that my internet works tomorrow, so that I don't get lost here..!!
See you :)
