Today, wake-up call is at 4:15 am. In the wonderfully beautiful morning atmosphere, we head to our car ferry in Moskenes, passing through the scenic and famous villages of Reine and Hamnoy. Since our car ferry is fully booked online, we leave at 6:00 am for Moskenes to secure a spot (2/3 reservation / 1/3 for spontaneous travelers). This works perfectly, just line up at the yellow "Bodo" counter, where an employee registers us and we board the ferry (payment via Autopass, automatically). To our surprise, the crossing is calm. In Bodo, we visit the Saltstraumen, which is also a well-known and good spot for anglers. Annemarie and Kurt also go fishing and after catching five fish, they have to stop, as there are still so many fish left, but we still have to eat them. The tidal current Saltstraumen is located about 30 km southeast of Bodo. The name Saltstraumen means "current in Salten," named after the local region. The strength of the tidal current is due to the narrowness of the sound. Over a distance of 2.5 kilometers, the water masses squeeze through a narrow strait of about 150 meters between the outer and inner Saltfjord. 400 million cubic meters of water are accelerated to speeds up to 40 km/h. Huge whirlpools with a diameter of ten meters are formed. This spectacular sight repeats several times a day in harmony with the ebb and flow. During high and low tide, the water calms down for a short time before everything starts again. In the early evening, we reach our great little house in Misvaer through the beautiful fjord landscapes.
