Cairo Boom Wow Uff

Hello hello my dear ones!

Three days in Cairo and it feels like Uganda is years away!

The journey was secretly exhausting, flew from 4-8 am and then took a taxi for an hour to the hostel. I was then greeted by a super nice staff member who gave me some plaster. Then I went straight to the Egyptian Museum at Tahrir Square, it was just around the corner. It was pretty cool, but I get tired of such things pretty quickly, so after half an hour it was already over and I went in search of food! Unfortunately, I was convinced three times on the way to go into some oil shops.. Well, I got tea in all of them and a free falafel in one, so it's not that bad. Then the next person came and kindly explained to me how to get to a market I was looking for, but in the end he just wanted me to buy him tax-free alcohol hahahah I felt a little used! Eventually, I made it to the market I was looking for and spent several hours there. Not because it was so great, but because it was huge and crowded and I eventually got lost! (That says something, I actually have a good sense of direction) Completely exhausted and starving, I was back at the hostel in the evening and bam, I met Amir. He works here at the hostel, made me coffee and is already my best friend here :D

In the meantime, I met my Chinese roommates who spontaneously asked me if I want to go on a desert safari the next day. Of course!

The rest of the evening I chilled with Amir and waited for Hisham (my friend from Kampala).

HishamH and two friends picked me up around 11 pm (I was really dead by that time) and took me to Old Cairo. It was pretty cool there, lots of old mosques and a market and cafes. In the end, we settled down in a cafe and had traditional tea and smoked shisha. It was super cool because it was not a tourist spot (except for the fact that there are few tourists here and if so, only Chinese) and the guys kindly helped me plan my week and promised to accompany me (depending on their job allows) more often. And no, they are not salesmen but all engineers :D

It was already 2 am by then and I was dead tired, so I went back to the hostel, I had to get up at 6 am the next day!

What can I say, I think either you love Cairo or you hate it! The city never sleeps, the traffic is crazy, there are so many people around and of course I'm stared at and approached everywhere (but much more polite than in Uganda, people constantly welcome me and thank me for coming). Cairo is simply a huge Middle Eastern metropolis, a mix of modernity and tradition, a bit dirty and bustling - I love it!!!
