Isar Cycle Path North 2: From Freising to Dingolfing

Nəşr edilmişdir: 10.09.2023

Kilometers driven: 72

Weather: sunny and warm

Mom and I started our day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel in Marzling. The bike path was quickly found and we rode close to the Isar for a very long time. That was very nice again, only occasionally a bit bumpy, the path was gravel again. There was a lot of forest around us like yesterday. When we drove out of Upper Bavaria and into Lower Bavaria, the character of the cycle path changed: Now we cycled across country, on many larger and smaller dirt roads, between fields, fields and villages. Some body of water was often not far away, but not the Isar, but working canals. We found a cow pasture that was completely built with solar panels particularly noteworthy. It's a win-win situation: on the one hand there is electricity, on the other hand the cows have space to run and even protection from the weather under the solar panels. For a short while the path also led along the main road.

We reached Landshut at midday. There we took a leisurely look at the beautiful old town and ate the snack we had brought with us in a quiet park on the Isar. Now we continued, now a lot on the Isar again. However, here often on dams. From here, the Isar is dammed several times. We saw hydroelectric power plants and the Isar 1+2 nuclear power plant with a shared cooling tower, which has been completely switched off since this year, from a distance. In the meantime the path was rather adventurous: there were parallel paths on the dam (very windy), behind the dam (you can't see much) and in front of the dam (they sometimes just ended somewhere). At times we simply drove along a tiny trail in the meadow or pushed ourselves up a muddy slope. But somehow it was really cool, always straight would be boring. Once a small stream flowed into the Isar. We stopped there and took a break to cool our feet.

Now came the final kilometers to Dingolfing, a town that you don't necessarily have to see. The city center is somehow very characterless. However, there is a damn good ice cream parlor, in the bookstore I found a book that I've wanted for a long time and the Hotel "Post" where we stayed was awesome. It was an old post office building with an inner courtyard, the corridors were old and wide and beautifully restored, so I felt like I was in a castle. And the dinner there was an absolute dream. The day ended peacefully there in the courtyard with this wonderful meal.
