Travel into the past

Nəşr edilmişdir: 28.06.2018

Today was a slightly less exhausting day, first we went to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, it's worth mentioning here in Exeter all museums are free. The museum was very interesting, although somewhat oddly sorted. Of course, there were obligatory parts with ancient Greece to Egypt, but also an extraordinary number of collectibles from the entire Empire. It also shows many impressions of the destruction of Exeter during the 1942 bombing and the subsequent reconstruction of the city.

Directly behind the museum are the Rougemont Gardens, a wonderful park to stay, which in turn is enclosed by a large part of the old Roman city wall. Directly behind the garden is the Exeter Castle, or Rougemont Castle (because of the red stones), where I just took a quick look inside. The castle was integrated into the Roman city wall in the 11th century after the rebellion of Exeter against William the Conqueror. From around 1607, the county court resided in the castle. Also, in the 1680s, the three witches of Devon were executed here, the last in England to be convicted of witchcraft. In the inner walls of the castle, all buildings were demolished in the 18th century to make way for a new courthouse, which is now used for public events and partly as a hotel. Apparently, it is often used for weddings, in 2009, Coldplay also gave a concert in the courtyard.

Afterwards, I went to 'The Imperial' pub, where, of course, the England-Belgium game was also broadcasted. The pub is really beautiful on the inside, but since I have decided not to upload interior shots (with the exception of the hostel, no rule without exception!), there is only one photo from the outside. You can find interior shots on google ;-)

On the way back to the accommodation, I walked through the beautiful park in front of the accommodation again, and yes, here it is still beautifully sunny at half past ten in the evening!
