The plateau and oncoming traffic (and construction site was also an issue again)

Nəşr edilmişdir: 09.09.2023

Travel day is coming up, the route should be an experience. Günni planned and replanned the route several times. In theory it was perfect 😏

With a heavy heart we leave and set off. Next destination is Flåm. Actually, it's around the corner and could be reached in an hour. It took us 6.5 hours 😄

Günni really wants to drive over the plateau of the Jotunheimen National Park. So we first drive a long way in the opposite direction of our destination, at some point we take a detour and then drive in a larger circle to Flåm.

The tour to the top is exciting. The road is becoming increasingly narrower and passing each other is only possible in the bulges. Most of the time we are lucky to meet oncoming traffic in such places, but sometimes it is difficult because trucks also drive along this route. Millimeter work and sweat of fear (at least for Natascha) are required.

Once you get to the top, the natural spectacle is simply wonderful. This country is so wonderfully diverse. And of course the special kind of oncoming traffic should not be underestimated; we encounter it more often these days.

And then there comes a sign that we only read half-heartedly and think: it's okay. Well, I thought wrong. Construction site and closure of the route. Damned!

After a short chat with the construction workers, it becomes clear that we will finish work at 3 p.m. and then we can get through. It's currently 1:30 p.m. So we wait. No reception in the middle of the wilderness. Natascha puts her feet up and Günni looks 371 times to see where we can best maneuver our team so that we don't block anything for the construction site vehicles. But he's not just Günni MacGyver but also Trucker Babe Main and finally we find a way.

When we finally move on, the rest of the journey is just as exciting and exhausting as before. The streets are narrow, bumpy, the sun is high and blinding. But this nature is simply beautiful and all the hardships are worth it.

On the journey you also notice how autumn is slowly coming. The many forests are getting yellow and red spots and we're looking forward to being able to turn on the heating in our trailer later. But you still have to make a stop at the Stegastein viewpoint. One of these great jetties was built here where you can look out over the Aurlandsfjord. Luckily there isn't much going on and we get some nice pictures.

We reach the campsite in Flåm, but both of us didn't really relax until we had filled up with gas and went shopping. Finally something to eat again 😊

So we enjoy our new spot right between the apple trees, treat ourselves to camping spaghetti with pesto, a chilled beer and look forward to our program tomorrow: ride the Flåm train and have a cozy barbecue.
