Tag 10: Erie Bayfront....we didn't get any further today

Nəşr edilmişdir: 24.09.2018

The last three days on the road have really taken a toll on us, so we took it really slow.

We had a very leisurely breakfast and as we sat there, the weather kept getting better until late morning when we had a bright blue sky.

Temperature-wise, it was manageable... around 17 degrees Celsius. But it felt like 24 degrees in the sun.

So we headed to the lake. Our experience in Rochester taught us: Don't walk in the USA unless you can also drive there...

So we got in the car and went down to the waterfront. The road took us through the first residential area we've seen here, which is really divided into blocks. We live on E 30 ST and to get down to the waterfront, you just go 12 blocks down and then a few blocks to the right and voilà, you're at the Bayfront... :-)

On the way there, it quickly became clear to us that Erie is not one of the most beautiful cities in the USA. Some things look quite run-down and there is quite a lot of industry, which we haven't seen much of on our tour so far.

But hey, the child lives here and that's why it's our top choice to visit this city.

At the waterfront itself, it was really beautiful again! We sat in the bright sun. There was a cool breeze, the water lapped right in front of us, a paddle steamer was just leaving and a little boat with a pirate on board was circling around to entertain the few tourists who were on an excursion boat.

Since it was getting towards afternoon, we got hungry and headed to Wegman's. Weekends and closing times are more of a foreign concept here, so of course we could also enjoy a full range of options on Sunday. Green asparagus, a grilled hot chicken (which was still hot even 30 minutes later... must be because of this weird plastic bag it was packaged in), yogurt and different varieties of hummus that we had already tasted the day before ended up in our shopping basket and were taken to our vacation home by us.

The rest of the day was all about relaxation and food. Our son had already gone with his team to a game in Johnstown/Pittsburgh early in the morning and wanted to spend the evening with friends.

So we had a quiet evening, which we spent with our best buddy 'Netflix'...😅
